Recently, Elyria residents have spoken up about the lack of transparency within our local government. As November 7th quickly approaches, we have a unique opportunity to turn those words into action.
From the beginning of my campaign last November, one of my key proposals has been a full overhaul of local government transparency in Elyria. From livestreaming to Open Data, opening up our city government's inner workings provides a new level of accountability and accessibility for every resident.
Livestreaming city council meetings, publishing meeting minutes, and providing a modern, responsive website with consistently updated information are the very least we could do to provide our citizens with better access to the choices being made by our government.
Open Data initiatives take this a step further. With Open Data, any resident can come to the city website and see where their taxes are being spent, who is winning contracts, which projects are going over budget, and how the city handles it. The best way to find new efficiency in our local government is to open our books and make it easy for our residents to hold us accountable.
